See on Scoop.itM-learning, E-Learning, and Technical Communications

Users want useful help content, and in this Summer Rerun, Ena Arel offers 10 heuristics to evaluate documentation usability before product release.

Danielle M. Villegas‘s insight:

Oddly enough, I missed this one the first time around. Ena Arel offers great tips for doing heuristic evaluations of documentation usability here, and it helps with web design heuristics too. She says she based hers on Nielsen and Molich with some tweaks, but I think her tweaks work well here. This reminds me very much of my first grad school project when I learned how to do heuristic evaluations. Great information here!

This is a good article that follows up on some of my observations about the "death of the desktop and gaming as we know it" post I did the other day.

Greater broadband access will bring the latest digital tools to more teachers and students

Danielle M. Villegas‘s insight:

This article came to me by way of Dr. Bruce Johnson (@drbrucej) on Twitter. It’s a great piece by Arne Duncan, the US Education Secretary, in Scientific American that talks about how technology needs to become more integrated into our educational system and its benefits. A wonderful read–and it’s a plan of action that we should try to embrace and promote!

I have been on vacation for three weeks taking a break visiting my parents and celebrating my son’s 7th birthday. I am back and looking forward to more great mobile conversations. I hope you are do…

Danielle M. Villegas‘s insight:

After dealing with trying to convert my father from Windows XP and Vista to Windows 8 over the last few days, and thinking about how software and video games are purchased now (that’s for another post sometimes soon), I was thinking a lot about the advantages of mobile that RJ points out in this article. The only point he makes that I slightly disagree with is the use of a stylus. I agree that you shouldn’t need a stylus to use mobile, but I like being able to use one if I want to take handwritten notes (sometimes, it’s just faster to jot down ideas). Otherwise, I agree–peripherals, power hungry apps, and an overblown file manager are too much. Definitely steps backwards.
