Google Translate gets smarter with language detection, Word Lens

Star Trek’s universal translator is here, and it’s on your phone.

Source: mashable.com

First there was Skype’s new Translator feature which will be coming soon to a Skype app near you, and now Google Translate is adding Word Lens to their app as well! Very cool. I tried using Word Lens when it first came out, but didn’t have much practical use for it. I will definitely have to try it again!

It looks like companies are starting to understand the value of translation and localization a little more now, doesn’t it? What will be the next one to join in?

Experimenting with Jekyll for tech comm | I’d Rather Be Writing

Source: idratherbewriting.com

This is a great post by Tom Johnson about Jekyll, one of several static site generator apps out there to help build CMS based websites. I don’t know much about static site generator apps–I suppose I need to learn more about them! This seems like a great introduction to the subject, and I’ll be looking forward to reading more about the subject as Tom posts more about his exploration of Jekyll.

Don’t Overlook Editing as Part of the Content Creation Process – Klahr Writing

Editing should always be a part of your content creation efforts.

Source: klahrwriting.com

Craig Cardimon shared this gem by Danielle Klahr. I can say that this is pretty much the method that I use when writing my content–especially for my blog entries. Editing is always crucial! I don’t know how many times I review and edit my blog posts before I actually post them, and yes, as she says, sometimes I still find mistakes after I’ve reviewed it dozens of times.

There are some good, basic pointers here worth reviewing.

Personal Histories

It’s the summer of 2014, and I’m sitting in the consul’s office filling out form after form proving my right to German citizenship: filing notarized birth certificates, declaring my mother’s birthp…

Jonathon Colman posted this in LinkedIn, and rightly so. It’s an intense, very personal article by Sara Wachter-Boettcher (who I saw speak at a meeting for my local STC chapter last year) about content and how context can have a huge impact. The least I can say is, bravo Sara, for this article that’s made a deep impression on me. Like you said, sometimes something that seems so simple on a form has huge reprocussions based on a person’s history that we don’t always realize. Well done.

I implore all of you to go read this–strong stuff, but it’s very good.

35 Tactics To Improve Your 2015 Content Marketing – Heidi Cohen

Want to get your content on track to succeed in 2015? Then examine these 10 Top 2015 Content Marketing Predictions and 35 content tactics.

Source: heidicohen.com

Thanks to Guy Kawasaki for bringing this to my attention on Google+. The author of this column, Heidi Cohen, seems to bring all of what I’ve been hearing in the last year or two into one article. As my son would say, she told you, and dropped the microphone.

What do you think? Do you agree with her assessment? I know I’m going to need to revisit this after taking my digital marketing course, because I don’t even understand much of it and how it ties together…but I will eventually…
