F. Scott Fitzgerald on the Secret to Great Writing
The Atlantic
What is the secret of great writing? For David Foster Wallace, it was about fun. For Henry Miller, about discovery. Susan Sontag saw it as self-exploration.
This is a really good article, especially for bloggers. Technical writers don’t usually get to write from the soul quite so much, but bloggers and other social media writers get to write "freestyle" more often. I think the key to doing well on a blog is writing the way Fitzgerald describes here–from the soul. That’s how I write, at least, and it seems to get a positive response. It’s also easier! Write what you know, both in your brain and your heart!
