Going, going … 5 signs the personal computer may be on the way out

Keyboards? Mice? Disc drives? It may be time to pull the plugs, experts say.

Danielle M. Villegas‘s insight:

RJ Jacquez (@rjacquez) brought this one to my attention. The article does make a lot of sense. Change is happening so fast that many are having a hard time keeping up, so the idea of having technology that "anchors" the user is appealing, like eating comfort food–it’s what you know. Getting rid of disks, wires and utilizing the cloud, among other things, is where we are going. I also think a big part of why tablets and other mobile items are becoming more popular is cost. After experiencing a big recession, tablets offer the kind of flexibility that many people seek for basic computing needs at an affordable price. Time will tell is the personal computer disappears altogether…

F. Scott Fitzgerald on the Secret to Great Writing
The Atlantic
What is the secret of great writing? For David Foster Wallace, it was about fun. For Henry Miller, about discovery. Susan Sontag saw it as self-exploration.

Danielle M. Villegas‘s insight:

This is a really good article, especially for bloggers. Technical writers don’t usually get to write from the soul quite so much, but bloggers and other social media writers get to write "freestyle" more often. I think the key to doing well on a blog is writing the way Fitzgerald describes here–from the soul. That’s how I write, at least, and it seems to get a positive response. It’s also easier! Write what you know, both in your brain and your heart!
